Database backups

Once a day the cron makes a backup of the whole database. You choose where it goes: kept on this server, sent by SFTP/FTP, sent by email, or any mix.

Turn on backups

1. Go to System → Settings → System and open the Database Backups tab.
2. Fill in a method (Backups on this server, SFTP/FTP or email).
3. Select Save & Activate. ClientFence tests the connection first.
4. Optional: select Run backup now and check the result at the top of the tab.

The Database Backups tab shows the last backup and each method.

Download a backup gives you a fresh copy at any time.

Keep config.php and the file folders too

Module settings, server keys and passwords in the database are encrypted with a key in config.php, which is not in the backup. Keep a copy of config.php somewhere off the server. Without it, a restore on a new install loses those settings.

Ticket attachments and payment receipts are files, not database rows. They are kept in .clientfence-ticket-files and .clientfence-receipts next to the site folder: back these folders up with your server’s file backups.

Danger

The backup file is not encrypted and holds all client data. Send it only to places you trust.

After enabling a destination, select Run backup now and check the result in Database Backups. Confirm you can retrieve the file from the destination. Remote copies are kept according to your storage provider’s retention settings.
