Troubleshooting common problems
Quick answers to common problems. Start with System health: it often names the cause.
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Invoices, reminders or backups stop | The cron is not running. Check Last Scheduled Execution under System → Settings → Scheduled Tasks and the cron line. |
| Emails are not sent | The cron sends the email queue, so check it first. Then open the Email Queue tab and use Send a Test Email to Yourself in Email settings. |
| “Missing .htaccess file”, or every page but the home page is a 404 | .htaccess was not uploaded; some upload tools skip files that start with a dot. Upload it from the release (see Install). |
| “Missing Required HTTPd Module” | The web server ignores .htaccess. Turn on mod_rewrite (or your server’s rewrite support) and, on Apache, AllowOverride All for the site folder. |
| The admin area asks you to finalize an update | Select Continue on the Finalize Update page and wait, or run php console.php system:run-patcher. See Update ClientFence. |
| Locked out by sign-in security | Run php console.php clientfence:signin-security-off on the server. See Sign-in security. |
| A payment is not marked paid | Open it under Invoices → Transactions, fix its details on the Manage tab if needed and select Process. If none is listed, check the gateway’s IPN Callback URL in Payment gateways. For money you received yourself, use Mark as Paid on the invoice. |
| A hosting order did not activate | The hosting panel refused it. Fix the cause, then Retry under Orders → Failed actions. |
| Scripts stop working after adding a page cache | Turn off full-page caching for ClientFence pages. See Caching and speed. |
Next checks
Section titled “Next checks”- If a backup failed, review its destination result in Database backups.
- If incoming support mail is missing, test the mailbox and check the Email import log.
- If a client is still seeing an unpaid balance, check Amount paid and Balance due on the invoice before recording another payment.
For integration connections on a server with multiple interfaces, see Outgoing network interface. For blocked user requests, see Access recovery.
Need help?
Section titled “Need help?”Ask on the ClientFence forum. Include your ClientFence version, what you tried, and any relevant error messages. For reproducible bugs, open a GitHub issue.
